Peacebuilding Specialist At Tearfund

Our peacebuilding approach seeks to mobilise, nurture, equip and connect faith-based movements of Peacebuilders, faith groups and communities to work together to prevent and respond effectively to conflict.

We are looking for a dynamic individual to drive this peacebuilding work globally, as part of our wider fragile states corporate priority, with a specific focus on supporting and enabling women and young people as peacebuilders.

Are you a person of peace, able to encourage and support a growing network of peacebuilders, building them into a dynamic movement of change makers? Are you able to inspire and equip staff within our country offices and partners to embed effective peacebuilding activities as an integral part of their country strategies, delivering integrated programmes to address the underlying causes of conflict and fragility?

Do you have experience of:

  • Living within a conflict affected context? Are you able to empathise with those in the margins that are perhaps most affected by violence?
  • Delivering peacebuilding activities across cultures within fragile and conflict affected contexts
  • Providing hospitable spaces where peacebuilders can be strengthened in their vocation and emotional wellbeing
  • Building, supporting and enabling movements of changemakers

Do you have knowledge and understanding of:

  • Peacebuilding and conflict transformation – particularly within an interfaith context
  • Conflict analysis and sensitivity

Then you could be Tearfund’s next peacebuilding specialist!

The role, which is part of the UK-based Fragile States Unit, can be based in any of Tearfund’s country offices (subject to Tearfund’s registration requirements) and will work closely with our cluster fragility advisers (currently based in Burundi, Lebanon and Myanmar) as well as the rest of the Fragile States Unit and other specialists within Tearfund’s Thematic Support Team. The work will focus on supporting peacebuilding within Tearfund’s twenty priority fragile states, the bulk of which lie within Africa and the Middle East.

Salary will be dependent on location.

All applicants must be committed to Tearfund’s Christian beliefs.

The recruitment process will include specific checks related to safeguarding issues. In addition, personal identification information will be submitted against a Watchlist database to check against criminal convictions as a counter-terror measure.
