Consultant: Document and Graphic Designer At International Organization for Migration


Established in early 2018 at the Regional Office for East and Horn of Africa, the Regional Data Hub (RDH) aims to support evidence- based strategic and policy level discussion on migration through a combined set of initiatives. These include: strengthening regional primary and secondary data collection and analysis; increasing Information management capacity across countries; providing technical support to ensure harmonization and interoperability of key methodologies used to monitor population mobility; and the engagement of key stakeholders and governmental counterparts in migration dialogue and consultation.

Under the overall supervision of the RDH Coordinator and direct supervision of the RDH IMO the candidate will be responsible for producing visually appealing graphic designs and layout for print and digital communication and visibility materials.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

The designer will work on the designing of IOM Regional Office documents and products developed by its RDH, and will have the following duties and responsibilities –

  1. Deliver creative and innovative designs for print materials such as books, booklets, flyers, brochures, posters, etc according to IOM’s established standards and guidelines;
  2. Transform text-based communications materials into visually appealing graphic designs for materials such as infographics, social media contents, digital documents, IEC materials etc in line with IOM branding guidelines;
  3. Develop designs for communication materials based on assignment brief;
  4. Provide recommendations on the best and most relevant visual design style and materials suitable for the RDH’s target audience;
  5. Liaise with and report to IOM staff regarding any visual design work;
  6. Design and edit artworks, photos, charts and other graphic elements;
  7. Perform such other duties as may be assigned.

Deliverables and timelines:

  • All editable design files, design elements, photos and supporting files used in the designing process and a final PDF version will be delivered.
  • The final deliverables should be submitted electronically to IOM RDH focal person mentioned in the initial request.
  • The assignment must be completed as per mutually agreed date.

Performance Indicators for Evaluation of Results:

  • The final version of the report must adhere to IOM Style Manual and IOM Spelling Guideline.
  • Regular update of status of the work to IOM project team/assigned focal person.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s Degree in arts, fine arts, visual communications, designing or any other related fields.
  • At least 5 years of professional experience in graphic designing for printing and digital materials for publication.
  • Proficiency in design software such as Adobe Design Premium, In‐Design, Illustrator, photoshop, CorelDraw, or similar;
  • Experience in printing processes (offset and digital), working with multi-cultural team environment are an advantage.
  • Strong multi-task prioritization, organizational, coordination and time management skills.
  • Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment and respect diversity.
  • Teamwork oriented but with a capacity to work independently.
  • Confident user of MS Office applications and communication platforms such as Skype for Business, BlueJeans, CISCO WebEX.
  • Personal commitment, efficiency, and flexibility.Strong interest in the issue of migration
  • Solid understanding of the norms of professional ethics;
  • Team work oriented but with a capacity to work independently.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work in a multi‐cultural environment and respect diversity.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills

LANGUAGES

Required: Fluency in both written and spoken English required.
