Public International Law & Policy Group Overview

The Public International Law & Policy Group, a Nobel Peace Prize nominee, is a non-profit organization that operates as a global, pro bono law firm providing free legal assistance to governments, sub-state entities and civil society groups engaged in negotiating and implementing peace agreements, drafting post-conflict constitutions, and establishing and operating transitional justice mechanisms. To facilitate the utilization of this legal assistance, PILPG also provides policy formulation advice and training on matters related to conflict resolution. PILPG is a leader in providing responsive and innovative legal and policy support to clients in conflict and post- conflict environments, and implements a portfolio of global programs in furtherance of its mission.

PILPG has advised over 30 governments, sub-state entities, and civil society organizations involved in the negotiation and implementation of peace agreements, post-conflict constitutions, and transitional justice mechanisms, including in Bosnia-Herzegovina, Burma, Egypt, Darfur, Georgia, Kenya, Kosovo, Iraq, Libya, Montenegro, Nepal, South Sudan, Sri Lanka, Syria, Tanzania, Uganda, Ukraine, and Yemen. PILPG has also provided legal assistance to every international criminal tribunal.

Position Description

PILPG is currently searching for a highly-organized, dynamic, and proactive professional who is passionate about non-profit operations, peace negotiations, human rights, and transitional justice to provide operational support to PILPG’s President and Founder Dr. Paul R. Williams. The Special Assistant will provide key administrative and operational support across Dr. Williams’ portfolio. The Special Assistant will provide support to Dr. Williams to ensure that his priorities are met, PILPG’s organizational goals are achieved, and operations run efficiently.

Roles and Responsibilities

The Special Assistant will serve as an integral member of Dr. Williams’ team, ensuring streamlined operations processes, including:

  • Providing assistance with maintaining Dr. Williams’ correspondences with strategic contacts, external partners, and internal matters.
  • Acting as representative of Dr. Williams and executive leadership regarding internal and external relations and correspondences.
  • Managing Dr. Williams’ calendar, including scheduling meetings, managing scheduling conflicts, sending reminders, and creating preparatory materials as directed.
  • Maintaining Dr. Williams’ online presence, including creating social media content across Dr. Williams’ accounts and platforms and managing Dr. Williams’ personal website and other website platforms.
  • Maintaining and refining internal processes to support PILPG’s executive team to expedite workflow and efficiency.
  • Tracking Dr. Williams’ priorities, ongoing projects, and tasks.
  • Independently performing special projects that require a combined knowledge of administrative needs and technical operations.
  • Utilizing efficient time management with the nuances of complex administrative assistance at the executive level.
  • Remaining adaptable to support the executive team as needed.

Office Management
The Special Assistant will gain insight into the management of a global non-profit organization through assisting with day-to-day office operations. The Special Assistant may be called upon to assist with organization-wide meeting logistics, office technology, and recruiting and onboarding. The Special Assistant will be responsible for orienting new hires on PILPG’s office policies and operations and will work closely with the executive team to ensure the overall smooth running of office processes.

Further, the Special Assistantwill participate in strategic planning for communications; and schedule, attend, and participate in events, presentations, and meetings. Position Qualifications

Candidates should hold a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, possess strong organizational skills, and display acute attention to detail. An outstanding candidate will be an effective communicator, possess the ability to successfully prioritize and manage multiple projects, and meet flexible demands.

Salary

$36,000-$38,000/year
