ABOUT VISUALIZING PALESTINE (VP):

Established in 2011, VP is dedicated to advancing a factual, rights-based narrative of Palestine and Palestinians as part of an international pro-justice movement.

VP is the first and largest project of Visualizing Impact, a non-profit organization that specializes in data-led, visual communication for social justice.

ABOUT THE POSITION

Since 2012, Visualizing Palestine has created more than 175 original infographics and 4 educational platforms that are regularly activated by students, academics, partner organizations and advocates to advance freedom, justice and equality for Palestinians. In 2021 at least 494 people in 59 countries downloaded VP visuals to use in political education events, presentations, campaigns, research, and more. At the same time, VP experienced organic growth of our social media audience by 250% on Instagram. VP is seeking an Outreach Specialist that will take VP to the next level by launching an outreach program and strategy with the aim of increasing online and offline audience engagement and reach. The Outreach Specialist will eventually supervise the Information Designer/Outreach program.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Outreach Plan

  • Develop and implement an outreach strategy and work-plan that incorporates multiple outreach channels and strategies
  • Monitor outreach plan activities and impact, report on progress and adjust activities as needed
  • Engage subject- matter experts to expand know-how and develop strategies, including outreach advisory committee members through regular monthly meetings

Online engagement

  • Adopt social media content guidelines
  • Develop a social media posting schedule, and produce social media content on a regular basis. At minimum maintain 3 posts per week on social media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter) after launch of social media content production schedule
  • Supervise planned VP website re-development process and launch, write content for the website, engage in testing the website and provide feedback to web developer with input from team members.
  • Work closely with the Deputy Director in the creation of a visual identity for VP’s website
  • Responsible for launch of new VP website, demonstrating improved user engagement over baseline metrics
  • Field questions that VP receives through our website or through email from various community members
  • Write e-newsletters and other communications material regarding VP’s visuals, events, plans, etc, and set them up on VP’s Customer Relationship Management (CRM) platform, Bloomerang. Support in drafting communications materials to members when needed
  • Support with digital outreach during annual membership drives

Network engagement

  • Build partnerships with Palestinian civil society organizations as well as other social justice organizations with the aim of supporting and complementing the work of pro-justice movements
  • Represent VP in meetings with partners
  • Build partnerships with influencers and key stakeholders
  • Communicate with the media regularly, including managing media inquiries
  • Develop and maintain dissemination lists to strengthen VP’s process for disseminating new resources
  • Support on the production of occasional op-eds for VP
  • Participate in speaking engagements and initiate community gatherings with the aim of sharing VP visuals on a regular basis
  • Organize online and in person events for the VP community

Supervision

  • Supervise the Information Designer/Outreach Program, and work closely with them on the creation of social media content and other outreach efforts (Note: this is a new role that we aim to add as part of the outreach program)

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations or a related field, preferred
  • At least 3 years of experience working in communications and community engagement
  • Experience and knowledge of copywriting, proofreading and editing
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience in website content production and management is preferred
  • Experience with managing social media accounts of nonprofits
  • Basic knowledge of illustrator, Canva, or similar tool preferred
  • Experience with supervision preferred
  • Highly organized, detail oriented, and self-motivated
  • Ability to multitask and organize various projects
  • Commitment to social justice and to freedom, justice and equality for Palestinians
  • Interest in being part of a small, remote-based team
  • Excellent relationship building skills
  • Excellent command of English and Arabic languages
  • Familiarity with CRMs is preferred but not a requirement

Time expectations: Ability to commit to a full-time role starting in May, 2022.

Location: We are a remote team working from the Middle East and the East Coast in the U.S. Preference will be given to candidates that can accommodate these time zones. Applicants based in the MENA region are strongly encouraged to apply.

Compensation: This is a contractor position with an annual compensation range of $30,000-$36,000.
