Health Promoter for MISSION in low resource Countries At Médecins Sans Frontières


Raising awareness: one of the keywords of those who do this job at MSF. From cities to remote communities, the health promoter makes our activity known in the area and analyzes the context in which we operate.

They manage a series of targeted activities based on notions of anthropology, sociology, education, training, communication to promote the knowledge of the services by the beneficiaries and the authorities present, reinforcing the knowledge and skills on health (diseases, treatment, prevention).

The presence of health promoters may be necessary both in emergency projects (vaccination campaigns, malnutrition, cholera) and in projects of access to health or “vertical” (HIV, tuberculosis, malaria, maternal-child health).

Responsibility

  • Analysis and understanding of behaviors related to the perception of health and disease in a community
  • Analysis and understanding of risk behaviors that favor the transmission of a disease (such as Ebola, cholera, HIV)
  • Implementation of strategies for the promotion of health services offered together with the expatriate and national multi-professional team
  • Implementation of information strategies on the risks of transmission of specific diseases and on the possibilities of prevention and treatment together with the expatriate and national multi-professional team
  • Treatment education and support activities aimed at promoting patient responsibility, prevention, acceptance, continuity of care**Needed requirements**
  • Degree in anthropology, sociology, psychology / counseling, social work, education, communication or comparable
  • 2 years of relevant professional experience (health promotion and education, prevention, experience in community approach, etc.)
  • Experience in management, supervision and staff training
  • Knowledge of English (B2) and French (B2); Spanish is a plus
  • Availability of 6-12 months

Preferential requirements

  • Previous work experience in a foreign country, added value if in the humanitarian field
  • Previous experience in vertical AIDS and TB care programs
  • Experience in social media and communication
