SOW- Graphic Designer/ Illustrator

Breakthrough ACTION Liberia is USAID’s flagship social, and behavior change program in Liberia. Program activities include developing materials that convey important health information to the public in a visual and attractive manner.

The project seeks to identify a pool of talented graphic designers/ illustrators/ artists who can work as needed to deliver various artistic materials, with technical support from the project. Anticipated needs include illustration, layout, animation, and design services. The selected consultant(s) will ensure that all the print and digital materials produced are high-quality, creative, innovative, and reflective of the local anesthetic. Final products may include infographics, posters, images, social media content posts, animations, diagrams, and newsletters, among others.

Assignment details:

Project requests may include:

  • Design, format, and package desired graphics, print materials, illustrations, and/or electronic images and materials
  • Prepare final layout in “ready-for-use” format (whether it be print or electronic)
  • Create illustrations and produce rapid revisions (based on program feedback)
  • Creative brainstorming to generate visual representations of concepts, processes, or discussions.

Compensation for design services will be arranged through short-term contracts determined based on the specifications of the proposed project and the availability of funds. Payment is made upon successful completion of the short-term assignments based on the approved timesheet.

Desired qualifications include:

  • 4 years of solid experience in illustration, layout, creative design, graphic design, and/or publishing
  • Expert level proficiency in adobe creative suite (In-design, Illustrator, etc.)
  • Proven experience in graphic production from start to published/printed product with knowledge of printing processes (offset and digital) and color management.
  • Excellent creativity and exposure in a publishing/ creative environment
  • Able to deliver on schedule and work with minimum supervision.
  • Keen design sense; Familiarity with “design thinking” for health programming
  • Preferred qualifications:
    • Applicants residing in Monrovia, Liberia, and able to travel to the Breakthrough ACTION Liberia office.
    • Previous experience working with Johns Hopkins Center for Communication Programs
    • Previous experience working with health communication materials.

Criteria for evaluation:

  • Each applicant will be assessed on previous experience, demonstrated talent and creativity, estimated budget, and ability to work within the parameters of Breakthrough ACTION Liberia.
  • 3 samples of previous work are required as part of the application.
