Evidence Review Consultancy (Child Protection — Health & Camp Management) At The Alliance for Child Protection in Humanitarian Action

Role Purpose:

The Child Protection Minimum Standards Working Group of the Alliance for Child Protection in Humanitarian Action is seeking a research consultant!

Pillar 4 of the CPMS highlights the risks of health, food security and other sectoral programming that is unaware of child protection concerns, including the potential exposure of children to further harm, inefficient use of resources, and compromising sectoral outcomes. However, there have been limited efforts to analyse existing evidence and data to demonstrate the benefits of child protection sensitive programming in other sectors. This piece of work is to conduct a thorough analysis of existing research and grey literature documenting the impact of child protection sensitive sectoral programming in diverse humanitarian settings. It is being carried out alongside two other similar exercises in Food Security (led by Plan International) and Education (led by UNICEF).

The methodology for this set of evidence reviews is currently being drafted. It will include identification and examination of relevant academic, agency-published and grey literature, as well as interviews with key informants to fill in any gaps.

The consultant will be able to use the knowledge and networks of technical focal points for each of the sectors.

General Deliverables:

Two 10/15-page evidence reviews of the impact of sectoral programming that is unaware of child protection risks / the benefits of sectoral programming that is sensitive to child protection. Each evidence review will focus on a specific sector: health and camp management.

Timeframe:

This Evidence Review consultancy is currently being recruited for 20 days starting ASAP.

Skills, Experience and Approach:

  • Solid experience in undertaking desk reviews of both academic and grey literature
  • Experience writing for humanitarian actors around the world
  • Knowledge of the Minimum Standards for Child Protection in Humanitarian Action, Sphere and related humanitarian standards
