UN Women is the UN organization delivering programmes, policies and standards that uphold women’s human rights and ensure that every woman and girl lives up to her full potential.

Context

UN Women Tanzania Country Office is looking for an International University Volunteer familiar with issues of Gender and Climate Smart Agriculture to strengthen knowledge management and documentation of climate smart interventions at various levels, specifically for a project funded by KOICA titled “Realizing Gender Equality through the empowerment of women and girls” which aims at improving the agriculture productivity and collective marketing for women and girls, among other goals. The UNV will support the project team to document good practices and lessons learnt with the aim of improving project results and organizational learning.

Task description

Under the direct supervision of the Programme Specialist for Women’s Economic Empowerment, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks, as specific to the Project: “Realizing Gender Equality through the empowerment of women and girls (RGEWER)”:

  •  Work closely with the WEE and M&E teams to support monitoring and reporting processes of the project RGEWER.
  •  Draft and finalize relevant research reports and present findings to UN Women including partners, as requested.
  •  Ensure timely compilation and documentation of user-friendly knowledge products as detailed in the RGEWER project document.
  •  Support the creation of a knowledge management strategy for the WEE portfolio, including updating the project flier, fact sheets, and other communication tools in relation to the RGEWER project.
  •  Produce three human interest stories documenting the journeys of three RGEWER project beneficiaries.
  •  Building on existing studies and support collection of qualitative and quantitative data of women and communities in the project areas.
  •  Liaise with RGEWER implementing partners (i.e. TAHA and Farm Africa) and document evidence-based best practices to accelerate women’s agricultural productivity.
  •  Contribute to the review of background documents, briefs, and presentations related to the RGEWER project.
  •  Help set a UN Women Tanzania WEE Community of Practice (COP) to share knowledge and good practices with stakeholders.

Dar es Salaam is Tanzania’s most important city for both business and government. The city contains high concentrations of trade and other services and manufacturing compared to other parts of Tanzania, which has about 80 percent of its population in rural areas. Downtown includes many small businesses, many of which are run by traders and proprietors whose families originated from the Middle East and Indian sub-continent—areas of the world with which the settlements of the Tanzanian coast have had long-standing trading relations.
